Helly Hansen W Powderstar Ski Jacket And Snowstar Ski Pant Review

This review of the Helly Hansen W Powderstar ski jacket and the Helly Hansen Snowstar ski pant, was carried out on the slopes of Les Arcs, La Plagne and Peisey Vallandry during the month of January.

Helly Hansen W Powderstar Ski Jacket Review

The black and white colour scheme is simplistic yet stylish. This is also complimented with a feminine silhouette fitted design that would suit an athletic build. The style is further stated with a faux fur removable hood.

Of course, Helly Hansen ski jackets are not just about looking good, they take great pride in innovation and moving ski apparel technology to new limits.

The Helly Hansen W Powderstar ski jacket is packed with simple, but effective features to make your time on the mountains more comfortable.

I love the Life Pocket+. This is a chest pocket which is designed keep your phone warm no matter what the conditions. This will stop the battery draining due to the cold.  Great for sending those Insta pics out at the end of the day, but more importantly, it can be a life saver in case of emergency.

Helly Hansen Powderstar Jacket review

Since I was skiing in conditions as low as -9 degrees, not once did I feel cold. The W Powderstar ski jacket is fully insulated, has 2-ply fabric construction, 4-way full stretch fabric, and is fully seam sealed.  That may seem like a lot of words randomly thrown together! But, in a nutshell, it keeps you warm all day!

On the other hand, when I was feeling a bit hot, I just unzipped the underarm ventilation and let the H2Flow system cool me down.  This works like your very own air-conditioning system!  Air flows through the jacket and released in different areas within.

As with a lot of high-end ski jackets, the W Powderstar is fitted with the RECCO system. This clever bit of technology will help rescuers track where you are if you have been caught in an avalanche.  Under no circumstance is RECCO to be used instead of an avalanche kit.

Other simple but effective features are that it has a sensibly placed lift pass pocket on the arm.  Also, wrist gators for that extra warmth and to ensure cold air cannot get in.

Helly Hansen Snowstar Ski Pant Review

A perfect combination with the W Powderstar ski jacket, the Helly Hansen Snowstar ski pant in black perfectly matches the style.

It is supposed to be a regular fit, but I think that is being understated as it would suit an athletic build without being too tight.  It also could be a bit tight around the tummy.  Having said that, the Fit Finder on the Helly Hansen really works well in nailing down the correct size for your body type.

Helly Hansen W Snowstar Pant

The snowstar ski pant is not equipped with all singing and dancing fancy features, but it has exactly what is needed. no more, no less.

First of all the 80g PrimaLoft insulation made sure I was never cold.  Even during icy wind gusts on the lifts above Arc 2000!  This is helped by the 2-way ply fabric constructions and the 2-way full stretch construction.

The Helly Hansen Snowstar ski pant is also very durable. After a week of abuse out on the slopes there is not so much as a mark on them!  This is due to the fabric construction mentioned above, as well as reinforcement on inside bottom hem and inside cuff.  The boot gators also have a silicon gripper to keep out that pesky snow from entering your boot.

Helly Hansen W Powderstar Ski Jacket & Snowstar Ski Pant Review – Final Thoughts

With Helly Hansen I knew what to expect.  High-end but practical features on clothing that is built to last.

What I really liked about this combo is the sleek feminine styling that is classic in looks.

The Fit Finder on the Helly Hansen site is definitely worth another mention as it really does work!  I felt that I was in-between sizes and very unsure what to choose and the Fit Finder was very concise.
