Helly Hansen Ask Spring Parka Review

The Helly Hansen Ask Spring Parka is a versatile jacket that can be worn on a spring skiing trip, as a casual jacket and to the office.

The Helly Hansen Ask Spring Parka is a very versatile jacket. Not only is it ideal for those spring days on the slopes when it can be blistering hot, snowing, or even raining, and all in the same day, but the Ask Spring Parka is a light and stylish jacket that can be worn out and about town.  Also, because the jacket is designed to fit over a tailored jacket, it can keep you dry on the way to work.

Not by any means a conventional ski jacket, I prefer this design to the more traditional shell jackets. Skiing/snowboarding in spring can be wet, so a decent waterproof jacket is needed, but once the sun comes out it can get blistering hot and this jacket can easily be folded up and tucked away neatly into a rucksack.

The design is both street and stylish with 4 oversized pockets at the front. I like the fact that Helly Hansen have made this parka long with the bottom pockets positioned for easy access when wearing a rucksack by being below the strap line.

The hood is a good size and well designed to keep the rain away, but the best feature is that it packs very neatly into the collar which doesn’t detract from the style of the jacket.

The Parka can be made to look more fitting with an adjustable waist which is adjusted by a draw-string. The cuffs can also be adjusted.

Helly Hansen have given the Ask Spring Parka a waterproof and breathable drop liner. There are also small eyelets under the armpits for extra airflow. One thing I did miss about a traditional ski jacket is the air ventilation zips under the arms as it can get a bit toasty in the midday sun. Having said that, this is not a feature that most ski shell jackets have either.

Being a snowboarder, I really felt that this parka suited my style out on the slopes, especially when wearing it over my usual base layers and checked shirts. It is oversized and may not suit everyone, but for those who like jibbing or hitting the spring time slopes with a bit of street style, this is ideal.
