It doesn’t matter if you plan to hit the park, make fresh tracks off-piste in knee deep powder, or negotiating a route through pesky skiers on those gnarly, icy resort runs, a back protector is always a welcome part of the armoury. As with most protection gear, a back protector is definitely something you don’t want to skimp money on, and the Forcefield Carve Back Protector takes no prisoners when it comes to features and functionality.
Designed for use at high speeds, the Carve Back protector is constructed from a unique soft, flexible, high impact shock-absorbing material called NitrexEvo. Don’t worry if you like beating yourself up perfecting that perfect trick in the park as the Carve also provides Repeat Performance Technology (RPT), so you will still have maximum protection after your tenth attempt (not recommended!). The 3D moulds are also designed to mould to the contours of your back so it doesn’t feel like you are carrying a turtle shell on your back.
The clever bit of the Carve is that is constructed using multiple layers which allows for partial movement of the inner layers. What that means is that it moulds to the shape of your back and allows for air flow through it when in use.
I found that the Forcefield Carve Back Protector is extremely comfortable to wear and can easily be secured into place using a velcro strap across the midriff and adjustable shoulder straps. No bells and whistles here but sometimes the simple solutions are the ones that work best as it remained in place all day. It feels very unobtrusive and I actually forgot I was wearing it from the first run.
The Carve, although reasonably lightweight, provides protection for the whole spine, from the Coccyx to the top and is an ideal standalone protector.
