Helly Hansen ULLR D 3 Fingers Gloves

Helly Hansen ULLR D 3 Fingers Gloves Review

I tested the Helly Hansen ULLR D 3 Fingers Gloves over a week in mid-January in Val d’Isere, during variable weather conditions in ranging from blue-bird sunny and mild to bitter cold days. Over the years, I’ve reviewed many Helly Hansen products with much acclaim, but I’ve never been a fan of their gloves—until now!

On first impression, the ULLR D 3 Fingers Gloves look like they were modeled on the hands of Danny DeVito’s character Penguin from Batman Returns (one of the best Batman movies ever!). They seem to be suffering from an identity crisis, not knowing if they are mittens (three fingers together) or gloves.

However, the Helly Hansen ULLR D 3 Fingers Gloves offer the best of both worlds. They provided the warmth I would expect from mittens with the dexterity of gloves. Not once did my hands get cold, even at the end of the day when the slopes had descended into shadow, and the wind was bitterly cold. I also had no problem fixing my boots to my bindings or handling my phone.

The gloves were true to size, with a snug fit, and during wet weather, they proved to be waterproof. Also, the retainer strap is a simple but useful feature which I found useful with ensuring I did not drop my gloves when needing to get something out of my pocket on ski lifts.

The RRP is pricey, but if you shop around there are deals to have out there.

In conclusion, apart from having a name that is far from catchy, I absolutely love these gloves, and the three-finger concept is the way to go!
