Dainese Blackcomb D Dry Women’s Ski Jacket Review

Dainese says: “Specially cut and constructed to isolate down in the body’s core areas to ensure warmth, the Blackcomb down jacket allows exceptional movement for skiing. It has a fully waterproof, seam sealed D-Dry® exterior and the full features expected of a ski jacket, including a thumb loop, powder skirt, pass pocket and a removable hood. The jacket is padded with 95% down and 5% feathers for incredible softness with an incredibly warm 800 fill to guarantee exceptional thermal insulation”.

You’d expect the Italians to cut a stylish looking jacket for the slopes with ease, but yet not only have Dainese managed this, they have packed a whole bunch of technical features into it that elevate it from being style over substance to style with more substance that most would ever wish for.

It’s a rare cross over garment that could suit a women who feels comfortable on a terrace of a Michelin starred restaurant in St Moritz to a serious freeride skier attacking the back side of Mt Fort in Verbier.

Firstly it’s warm – the down insulation could deal with a cold Norwegian snap, yet the breathable and waterproof outer ensures that even in snowy conditions you’ll stay dry. Yes it’s not just a pretty picture, the 20.000mm waterproof outer proves this jacket isn’t about sitting inside on a wet day, it’s made for serious conditions and it wants to be taken seriously.

The styling could make it suitable for a smart winter coat around town and no one would ever know that the week before, you were descending the Vallee Blanche at minus 15 degrees in a white out. Its dark colouring isn’t for everyone, but the 2017-18 winter season is all going that way, so get with the program and stop with the pastels!

Dainese’s brand heritage shines through the jacket and although it’s not on the lower end of the price scale, we think if you’re fashion conscious and want something that will take care of you in the very worst of the elements, it’s money very well spent.
