A lightweight mid layer jacket designed for ski touring but can also be used for general skiing or other outdoor activities.

We got the test out the Uranostind Insulated jacket from Norwegian clothing brand Bergans during our early season ski trips in the Alps.

First impressions – quality looks great with some nice attention to detail that gives the jacket a look that’s wearable around town as well as on the mountain. It’s certainly an outdoor look but soft enough to get away with wearing a pair of jeans with.

It’s light, really light but the Primaloft insulation (gold) is surprisingly warm and the Pertex outdoor is wind proof and shower resistant. It’s not an outer garment but could be used as such when touring in dry conditions. If the insulation does get wet then it continues to work as opposed to down which doesn’t once it gets wet.

On colder days it can be worn as a mid-layer ski touring jacket underneath a shell or kept in the pack to throw on at a rest stop when you’re munching a sandwich on a rock.

One of the side pockets doubles up as a stuff pack with a reversible zip and it packs down so small it would almost fit in a pocket – would fit into a large jacket pocket.

We really like this jacket and its multifunctional options for serious outdoor use to the smart/casual around town approach.
