Protest Decay Jacket review

Protest Decay Ski Jacket Review

This review of the Protest Decay ski jacket was carried out on a snowboarding trip to Ischgl, Austria, at the beginning of December.

Okay. I must admit that this style of jacket is not my usual choice. In fact one friend commented that I was wearing the wrong camouflage attire for snow conditions!

Having said that, I got some great comments whilst out snowboarding and it is a fashionable style (again!) on the slopes. I quite like the grungy street meets slopes look that the Protest Decay ski jacket has in abundance.

Protest Decay ski jacket – The review

The jacket does not only look good, it is a really decent ski / snowboard jacket. The material is 10k water resistant which is more than enough for most conditions.

The Protest Decay ski jacket kept me dry at all times. Even when snowboarding in powder during a snow storm, as well as on the lower slopes of Ischgl in driving rain.

The jacket also kept me warm at all times.  I am not sure about more extreme conditions, but the Protest Decay is certainly warm enough for the average ski trip to the Alps.

Also, If it does get too toasty out on the slopes, there are underarm ventilation zips so you can cool off.

Protest Decay ski jacket review – pockets

You certainly couldn’t accuse Protest of over doing it with the pockets on the Decay, but you have pockets where you need them the most.

I found the outer chest pocket very useful for my phone. It saves having to undo the jacket to reach for an inner pocket and letting the cold in each time.

There is also a ski pass pocket on the sleeve. This may sound basic, but you would be surprised by the amount of ski jackets that are double the price of the Decay that do not have this.

The two main outer pockets are functional but could do with being bigger.

There is also a decent ski goggle mesh holder on the inside as well.

Protest Decay ski jacket review – Sizing

I was wearing a Large size jacket as I usually like my jackets quite baggy for freedom of movement, but the Decay was quite a snug fit. Don’t get me wrong, the fit would be fine for most people, but I did have issues of it being too tight around the waist area with the pockets.

It was perfectly fine when I did not have anything in the pockets, but a problem with bending down when I did. This may not be such an issue with skiers, but a big issue with snowboarders when having to strap in bindings.

Protest Decay ski jacket review – overall

This is the first ever Protest ski jacket I have reviewed and I was impressed.  It does not have high end spec like some other well know ski brands, but is perfect for most skiers and snowboarders needs.

It is a fashionable, functional, good value ski jacket.
